I can’t speak highly enough of Velinda Wardell as a cinematographer. Everything I’ve seen of her work is beautiful. She is meticulous and creative, and to me as a fledgling director, she was invaluable. 

In 2010, she shot a film I wrote/directed called ‘Not Even A Mouse’, creating an evocative world for the characters and the piece. Restrained though we were by time and budget, Velinda’s skill brought beauty, style and professionalism to my first ambitious project. 

She has a wonderful on-set energy; gentle yet strong, with a great sense of humour and a brilliant work ethic.

Velinda and I collaborated on several shorts while enrolled at AFTRS (her in cine, myself directing), and continue to still develop projects together – THE LAST GOODBYE being our most recent (55 mins Red Epic), filmed in Paris in 2012.  

I am in constant awe of her dedication and purity of vision.  Velinda throws herself into each project with absolute commitment, and always brings a unique and creative perspective to each piece.  COSETTE was filmed on 35mm, and mostly hand-held – so there’s no denying Vel’s muscular strength! But it is her creative strength that most infatuates, and I feel blessed to have her in among my team.  I am now based in Los Angeles, and look forward to having her join me here on future projects!
